Certification
The Smart Ticketing Alliance (STA) Certification Program is designed to ensure that transportation and acceptance media comply with the highest standards for contactless communication.
The program is built on a collaboration of authorized Certification Bodies (CBs) that certify compliance with the ISO/IEC TS 24192 international standard, which has replaced the historical CEN/TS 16794 standard.
Key Features of the STA Certification Program
-
Mutual Recognition: The STA Group of Certification Bodies (GCB) serves as a platform to facilitate mutual recognition among its members, reducing costs and streamlining agreements between CBs and testing laboratories.
-
Open Membership: Certification Bodies accredited according to ISO/IEC 17065 for the CEN/TS 16794 standard are eligible to join the GCB.
-
EU-Wide Recognition: Certificates issued by ISO/IEC 17065 accredited Certification Bodies are recognized across the European Union, ensuring a consistent quality standard.
-
Transition to New Standards: The certification program is transitioning from Edition 2 to Edition 3, based on the latest ISO/IEC TS 24192 standard. During this transition, Edition 2 certifications can still be requested for a limited time.
Commitment to Quality and Trust
Certification is crucial for maintaining the integrity and quality of contactless communication between readers and fare media in public transportation. The STA Certification Program ensures that public authorities and users can trust the performance of certified products.
